Alayne Henley

Hello, I’m Alayne Henley, Registered Mental Health Counseling intern. I grew up as the middle child of three in my family of five. Learning how to navigate conflict with humor and patience was necessary and became my greatest asset from early childhood. These skills continued to serve me well in my teaching career of 20 years, raising my two children, and all their animals, which I lovingly refer to as the petting zoo, and helping me keep an overall positive disposition and inner peace. My motivation comes from understanding others and helping them build better communication experiences that bring excitement and passion for life’s relationships.
My love of reading and writing turned into a degree in English Literature from the University of Central Florida. During my undergrad years at UCF, I tutored athletes on the football team and women’s basketball team. I also worked as a student in the campus Career Resource Center helping students write resumes and encouraging them to connect with potential employers at career fairs. Helping and teaching became a passion leading toward a rewarding 22 year career as an educator in Florida Public Schools. I used my education and natural talents to work with children and families. It was over the course of my teaching career that I gained insight into the results of varying parenting styles, successful family routines, and persistent patterns of communication which could either build up or cause damage. Seeing the need of families, couples, and children, I decided to add to my life experience and career expertise, the knowledge and skill set I would have as a licensed mental health practitioner to be more impactful. When I have a few moments to myself, I still enjoy reading, kayaking, and any activity that brings me closer to my children, friends, and extended family.
Individuals - Are you having difficulty prioritizing or bringing order to your current life situation? I will work with you to set measurable and attainable goals that make sense for this season of your life.
Couples – At times we struggle to hear our partners even as they speak directly to us. Working together to build the relationship you want is possible through communication that both reassures and nurtures as well as allows for curiosity and discovery. I can guide you through this process and work with you to reach your relationship goals.
Parents – Parenting is an all-encompassing journey that brings overwhelming emotions at times leaving us bewildered and struggling to make sense of family life and marriage. Through research-based methods, we will build healthy interactions, work on boundary-setting, and
strengthen family bonds.
